Case Summary
On September 1, 2020, Oklahoma citizens Marc McCormick and Eldon Merklin filed suit against Janet Ann Largent and other proponents of Initiative Petition 430, State Question 815, in the Supreme Court of Oklahoma. If approved by voters, Initiative Petition 430 would have given responsibility for legislative redistricting to a redistricting commission. The plaintiffs argued that the ballot summary (gist) of Initiative Petition 430 is "inaccurate and misleading" and the measure should not be allowed to proceed to the signature gathering phase. Proponents announced plans to withdraw the petition on September 22, 2020. The case was dismissed as moot on September 24, 2020.
