Case Summary
On May 23, 2023, a religious organization and four Arkansas voters filed a federal lawsuit against Arkansas’s Secretary of State and the members of the Arkansas State Board of Election Commissioners challenging the state’s enacted congressional plan as racially gerrymandered in violation of the 14th Amendment and as intentionally racially discriminatory in violation of the 14th and 15th Amendments. They sought a judicial declaration that the plan was unconstitutional, a preliminary and permanent injunction barring the plan from being used, and for the court to require a new plan be enacted.
- On October 26, 2023, the district court scheduled a hearing on the State’s motion to dismiss for December 4, 2023.
- A trial is scheduled for March 24, 2025.
