Case Summary
On August 27, 2020, the former Chair of Virginia’s Democratic Party filed a petition with the Supreme Court of Virginia challenging the language of proposed constitutional amendment #1, a redistricting reform measure, as intentionally misleading and deceptive for failing to describe how redistricting commissioners would be selected. Petitioner sought a writ of mandamus or writ of prohibition barring the constitutional ballot measure from being placed on the 2020 ballot.
- On September 9, 2020, the Virginia Supreme Court dismissed the petition, finding petitioner was not entitled to either of the writs he had requested.
