CASE SUMMARY
On December 12, 2022, Michigan’s Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission filed a state lawsuit against the Michigan House and Senate challenging the Commission’s lack of funding for fiscal year 2023 operations as violating the Michigan Constitution’s requirement that sufficient appropriations be made for the Commission to carry out its duties. They sought a declaratory judgment the legislature failed to meet its constitutional obligations and a permanent injunction and writ of mandamus requiring the appropriation of the Commission’s requested funding.
- On March 16, 2023, the case was dismissed upon joint stipulation.
