CASE SUMMARY

On April 15, 2022, three plaintiffs filed a lawsuit against Ohio's Congressional map. The complaint alleged violations of the Voting Rights Act as well as both the 14th and 15th Amendments. A federal district court judge, upon recommendation of a magistrate, dismissed the complaint on October 12, 2023.

The case was appealed and a panel of the Sixth Circuit reversed the district court's decision to deny a request for a three-judge panel and vacated the order dismissing the complaint.

A three-judge panel was named on April 25, 2024, and briefing resumed. Plaintiffs renewed their motions for a Temporary Restraining Order, Preliminary Injunction, and Partial Summary Judgment. Defendants renewed their motion to dismiss.

The three-judge panel unanimously dismissed plaintiffs renewed motions on July 1, 2024.
